Valencia HS DE Gabe Perez (Placentia, CA) named Boise State his leader following an unofficial visit last summer and could be on the verge of pledging to the Blue and Orange. The talented DE will be in Boise this weekend for an official visit and says a verbal commitment is possible if all goes well.

"I'm excited to meet the players and see how they interact," he said. "I didn't get a chance to see that on my visit over the summer," he added.

"Boise State is still my leader," he stated. "I've visited other schools, Colorado, Utah, and Nevada, but I enjoyed my visit to Boise more than those schools."

"If I go up there and like it, I'll probably commit," said Perez. "It just depends on whether I feel good about it or not. I'll take a couple more trips if I have to but I'd like to commit and get this out of the way."

Head Coach Chris Petersen and Defensive Coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski have both been recruiting Perez even harder in recent weeks.

"I spoke to Coach Pete on Friday," he said. "He told me he wants me to be a Bronco. What I like is how I get to talk to all of the coaches and not just the area recruiter. A lot of schools don't recruit like that. I think that shows how involved Coach Pete is and how he wants to recruit the right guys."

"Coach K is also coming for a house visit tonight," he said on Wednesday afternoon.

The Broncos finished the 2012 regular season with a defense ranked in the Top 10 in nearly every category. That didn't go unnoticed by Perez.

"They get after it on defense," he said. "As good as they are, you can see that they've shown improvement over the season too."

"I think the most exciting thing about their defense is how they're always doing something different," said Perez. "They stand up, drop back into coverage, blitz, they do it all."

BroncoCountry.com will continue to have updates on Gabe Perez.
