An LSU spokesman has confirmed that suspended point guard Anthony Hickey is on the team's flight, which left early Thursday morning for Denver. It is still unknown if Hickey will play once the Tigers get over to Boise for Friday night's game.
At a press conference Wednesday afternoon, first-year
LSU
coach Johnny Jones told reporters sophomore
Anthony Hickey
is likely to make the team's upcoming three-game trip.
Hickey, LSU's starting point guard and the nation's leader in steals, was indefinitely suspended by Jones Friday for "violation of athletic department and university policy."
The Hopkinsville, Ky., native missed last night's 80-67 win over Chattanooga in the PMAC.
LSU (6-0) will play away from Baton Rouge for the first time this season when the Tigers travel to
Boise State
on Friday (Dec. 14). Following that the Bayou Bengals play at UC Irvine (Tues., Dec. 18) and Marquette (Sat., Dec. 22).
According to Jones, Hickey is likely to accompany the team to the trio of games, but LSU's coach is not certain yet if the point guard will play.
Jones added that Hickey was in a meeting earlier this afternoon with members of the LSU athletic administration sorting through the matter.
In Hickey's absence Tuesday night, junior
Andre Stringer
started and put up 18 points, four assists and three steals against the Mocs.
Thursday Morning Update:
An LSU spokesman confirmed that Hickey is on the team's trip, boarding a flight to Denver this morning with the rest of the Tigers. What is still unknown is whether Hickey will be allowed to play once LSU tips in Boise Friday night or either of the Tigers' away destinations next week.
That decision now seems to be in the hands of Jones considering the athletic administration has signed off on Hickey's travel ticket.
