Fort Collins station AM 1400 KIIX will continue to serve as the Rams flagship station for this season, although that status long term is up in the air. It is believed that Nelligan would like to move the flagship designation to the Denver affiliate for the long term.
It had appeared early on that Colorado State's radio broadcasts would land on Denver's newest all-sports station, AM 560 KLZ/ESPN Radio. However, KLZ's parent company, Crawford Broadcasting Company, could not agree on contract terms. Speculation is that Crawford is positioning it's ESPN Radio affiliate to make a run at the rights for the University of Colorado for next season. KNUS continues to beef up it's sports presence, adding CSU as it's 'franchise' while continuing to serve as the 'overlap' outlet for the Colorado Avalanche and Denver Nuggets when both teams are playing at the same time and only one game can air on flagship station AM 950 KKFN 'The Fan.'
With his appointment as the new Athletic Director at Colorado State, former Ram QB and broadcaster Mark Driscoll will be relinquishing his duties as color man on the CSU football broadcasts. Word on a new partner for play-by-play man Rich Bircumshaw should come very soon.
