Gartrell Johnson Profile

The San Diego Chargers have signed DE Andre Coleman to the active roster, the team announced Monday. To make room for Coleman on the roster, the team waived rookie RB Gartrell Johnson.

Coleman (6-3, 287), who has been on the team’s practice squad, will be eligible to play in tonight’s ESPN Monday Night Football season opener against the Raiders. He wears No. 78. Coleman spent the 2007 and ’08 seasons on the team’s practice squad and has yet to appear in a regular season game. The move became important because starting DE Jacques Cesaire (calf-questionable) was limited in practice last week.

Johnson was a fourth-round choice by the Chargers in this year’s NFL Draft out of Colorado State University.
